Introduction

Whether you are a college, professional, or an Olympic athlete, you know how important it is to perform at capacity during workouts and games.

Imagine having that talk with your coach that you have been lagging off, you are not meeting your targets, or getting a call from your doctor that you must stop playing because of a sports injury you sustained.

Not being out on the field playing with your teammates and scoring is every athlete’s nightmare. As an athlete, you feel alive, being on the field playing with your teammates, scoring, and fans cheering from the sides.

What would you do if I told you there is an alternative therapy you can incorporate into your daily regimen that other athletes are already using, giving them excellent results?

I am talking about Reiki, an ancient Japanese technique that uses a holistic approach to rehabilitate the body and mind. It can help you:

  • Relax muscles, relieves muscle soreness and stiffness, and helps the body to recover faster and gain energy
  • Support healing and recovery process from injuries
  • Reduces post-workout recovery time
  • Improves concentration and focus
  • Manage body pain

Reiki For Improving Concentration And Focus

Being in a competitive sport can take a lot of your mental state. You have to deal with stress, anxiety, and constant pressure of high expectations. You worry about what to do to ensure you and your team are winning and not disappointing your sponsors or fans. This stress level is enough to make anyone not perform at their best.

Including Reiki at time of stress with other routines and treatments can help you as an athlete deal better with stress and anxiety.

The healing therapy helps with relaxation and brings overall balance to the mind and the body; it supports the blood flow, cardiovascular activity, breathing, and thoughts. This balance allows you to become mindful of yourself, your inner strength, surrounding, bringing more clarity to mind and promoting a sense of calmness, peace and confidence.

A calm and clear mind supports further the vision and intent of what you want to achieve during the day and in your life.

A recent study done by the American College of Sports Medicine identified sleep deprivation as the leading cause of focus and physical performance decline. You need to get a good rest and sleep to focus. A calm and peaceful mind free from worry will help you relax and have a good night’s sleep. Your body will feel well rested when you wake up, and you can focus on your next game or task.

As an athlete, you need enough time to rest and let the body rejuvenate and heal for you to focus and perform at maximum capacity. Investing in healing the mind with alternative therapy like Reiki helps rehabilitate the body and mind and put the stress associated with the job at bay.

Being in a competitive sport can take a lot of your mental state. You have to deal with stress, anxiety, and the constant pressure of high expectations. You worry about what to do to ensure you and your team are winning and not disappointing your sponsors or fans. This stress level is enough to make anyone not perform at their best.

Including Reiki at times of stress with other routines and treatments can help you as an athlete deal better with stress and anxiety.

An athlete builds physical strength by doing extreme workouts. The intense workout incorporates many routines, repetitive movements, and exercises to grow, strengthen and build muscle endurance.

The intense workout can take a toll on the body, whether you are an athlete or just someone who loves to exercise. You force muscles to grow stronger and build endurance fast, which often leads to muscle fatigue, stiffness, soreness, or microscopic tear of the muscles.

Like in anything, too much of something is harmful. Giving the body time it needs to rehabilitate is imperative for the continued growth of the muscles and endurance necessary for you to perform best at your next game or championship.

A review done in 2017 found that a person who included complementary therapy in their post-workout routine had significantly less muscle soreness and fatigue than a person who did not include any form of post-workout treatment. Reiki healing session post-workout will help you relax and aid your cells in rejuvenating, reduce soreness and improve body motion and stiffness.

Reiki and Recovery from Sports Injuries

Whether you are an athlete, gym fanatic, or just someone who loves to exercise occasionally, as long as you play sports, you must have sustained an injury at one point or another.

Sports injuries are quite common; these include swollen muscles, sprains, shin splints, strains, rotator cuff injuries, fractures, dislocations, and knee injuries. Some are acute injuries resulting from sudden events that cause noticeable symptoms, while others are chronic injuries with more subtle signs, either at first or consistently over time.

There are many reasons why you can get a sports injury, such as: an accident, direct impact, poor training practices, improper equipment, lack of conditioning, applied force, or insufficient warm-up and stretching cause muscle sprains, strains, tears of the ligaments, and tendons, dislocated joints, fractured bones, or head injuries.

In 2003 a two-time GPA Tour winner Jerry Kelly sought the help of a reiki therapist after sustaining a shoulder injury. He was scheduled to have surgery in a week but opted to pursue a reiki practitioner for contemporary healing. He scheduled five reiki therapy sessions and went for his pre-op checkup after. Jerry was shocked when the doctor told him he wouldn’t need the surgery anymore since a gap had formed between the bones that initially rubbed each other causing him shoulder pain.

Jerry Kelly would have been out of the tournament for months if he had gone for that surgery, and there were no guarantees that his shoulder would have returned to its original state after the surgery. This goes to show you how powerful reiki therapy is. With the help of his reiki therapist, he could realign his shoulder, reduce healing time and save on time and money, which he would have used a lot of if he had gone for the surgery.

Summary

Athletes’ notable investment is healthy physical and mental well-being. Being in such a competitive field, building physical strength, body responsiveness, and mental toughness can go a long way for an athlete.

Reiki is certainly not a replacement for modern medicine but an alternative solution. Why wait for your body to give up on you from all the intense workouts before taking action?

Working on healing your body and mind every day after workouts with Reiki will help you improve your body’s strength and focus on helping you perform at capacity in your next game.
